We all remember President Obama\u2019s infamous 2012 campaign quote:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cYou didn\u2019t build that.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were many, many layers of wrong with that assertion, but we will confine ourselves to the aspect of it that is now fashionable: that somehow all government projects, like roads and bridges, constitute \u201csocialism,\u201d according to the Democratic Socialists of America\u00a0and their DSA fellow travelers.<\/p>\n

They don\u2019t, of course.\u00a0\u00a0They constitute civilization.\u00a0\u00a0First world civilization. Derived, importantly, from vibrant capitalism.\u00a0\u00a0We are civilized, not socialist.<\/p>\n

What were we supposed to have done? Keep traversing mud?\u00a0\u00a0Ignore the advent of asphalt and not <\/em>give our consent to our elected representatives to build roads and bridges?\u00a0\u00a0If one stops to think about their examples of socialism for even one second, they\u2019re silly, childish, extrapolated nonsense.<\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s “green\u00a0czar\u201d Van Jones, has recently been on CNN sounding the alarm about DSA\u00a0which is curious if you recall that Van Jones had to resign his position in the first Obama administration largely because his own \u201csocialist\u201d past clung too tightly. Jones became a self-identified communist\u00a0and third-worldist\u00a0after<\/em> the fall of the Berlin Wall when only the most ideological clung to the then-obviously\u00a0discredited idea. It\u2019s worth noting that Van Jones was 40 years old in 2009 when Obama hired him.\u00a0\u00a0Most of us are well settled into our political identity by then, so Obama knew exactly who and what he was getting with him. Obama\u2019s closest advisor Valerie Jarrett even bragged to a 2009 audience that they had been \u201cwatching him\u201d a long time before they \u201crecruited\u201d him.<\/p>\n

A reminder of who Van Jones is, from a 2012 article:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Jones was tapped by Obama in 2009 as his green-jobs adviser. That April he was dubbed one of the world\u2019s 100 most influential people by Time magazine, which called him \u2014 in an entry by actor Leonardo DiCaprio \u2014 \u2018a pioneer in fusing economic opportunity and social justice with environmentalism.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The \u201cfusion\u201d of of which Mr. DiCaprio speaks is really just socialism\/communism: \u201ceconomic opportunity\u201d (read: government money), \u201csocial justice\u201d (read: whites get screwed and non-whites get special privileges) and \u201cenvironmentalism\u201d (read: green government money ostensibly in service of a green natural world).<\/p>\n

From The (U.K.) Times newspaper:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Van Jones] has said he was radicalised by the Rodney King case\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28, and then the verdicts came down on April 29,\u2019 he told a newspaper in 2005. \u2018By August I was a Communist.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s a great example of a pivot point. He definitely had one here \u2014 towards communism. I can find nothing since to suggest an equivalent pivot away from communism.<\/p>\n

One of Van Jones’s most infamous quotes gives us a red light warning to us as to where he really is now:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019m willing to forgo the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for the deep satisfaction of radical ends.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

From Google A.I.:<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst coined in a 2005 interview\u2026 this quote encapsulates his transition from an open revolutionary\u2026 to a pragmatic organizer\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And there it is. His soft<\/em> pivot point: still firmly within the socialist\/communist camp, but not so in-your-face about it.\u00a0\u00a0In other words:\u00a0\u00a0Lose the green dye in your hair along with the radical jargon, and put on some tailored clothes. You don\u2019t have to stop being a socialist\/communist, just shut-up<\/em> about it and work the system.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

And what has DSA\u00a0admitted to recently?\u00a0\u00a0They are working the system.\u00a0\u00a0Their leadership has openly said they using the Democrat party to gain a foothold inside of government.\u00a0\u00a0But these young whippersnappers lack the old guard\u2019s depth and discipline; they\u2019re open about who they are.\u00a0\u00a0They\u2019re like children with a new skill.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWatch me! Watch me!\u201d<\/p>\n

Below is the sum and substance of what Van Jones has said on CNN recently:\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s from his own Substack.\u00a0\u00a0These are his words:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tired of being told that, to be a progressive, I now must swear allegiance to crazy ideas.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In other words:\u201cshut-up with the crazy talk.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Note that his objection is to swearing allegiance to the ideas, not that they have the ideas. Further, and crucially, he doesn\u2019t reject these ideas on moral grounds, only on their misalignment with Van\u2019s definition of what it means to be progressive, which he surely knows \u2014 indeed we all know \u2014 is just the pragmatic term for being a socialist\/communist.<\/p>\n

He goes on:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019m a strong Democrat\u2026 rooted in progressive ideals and policies: criminal justice reform, Green New Deal, Medicare for All, free education, clean air and water. These are ideas I have fought for my entire adult life.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Like DiCaprio\u2019s similar list, add them up and they obviously, overwhelmingly comprise socialism\/communism.<\/p>\n

He continues:<\/p>\n

\n

But some people in groups like the DSA are pushing an agenda FAR outside those ideals. Supporting Hamas is not progressive. \u201cNo police, no prisons, no borders\u201d is not progressive. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressive. These ideas are REGRESSIVE.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s important to note that Van Jones is not an anarchist. (And neither is DSA, they\u2019re just too young and stupid to know that some of their ideas are anarchistic.) Note, too, that Van doesn\u2019t take specific issue with the murder of Israeli civilians. He takes the more cosmetic issue with DSA. celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians.<\/p>\n

Continuing:<\/p>\n

\n

If there were no police or prisons, if anyone in your neighborhood could do whatever they wanted, while politicians cheered on terror groups \u2014 would that represent PROGRESS to you? No, that would be a step back. Those are REGRESSIVE ideas.\u201d <\/em>[Snip]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As I said before, he\u2019s a socialist\/communist, not an anarchist. He wants the power of the state, not the absence of it.\u00a0\u00a0And he\u2019s willing to tolerate DSA if only they\u2019d shut up about certain things yet still enact the agenda he supports. Heck, he\u2019s practically begging them to be more \u201cpragmatic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Van Jones and DSA\u00a0are both chameleons.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s just a different color than DSA.\u00a0\u00a0He has not outright rejected any of these candidates.\u00a0\u00a0He has not rejected them wholesale.\u00a0\u00a0He has not said he would not vote for them.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s merely frustrated that they are making potential advocacy of them hard. That he\u2019s willing to tolerate them at all makes this a tactical pose, not a principled one.<\/p>\n

Support for Hamas should be a huge red line for anyone with a conscience, and DSA, by Van\u2019s own admission, supports Hamas.\u00a0\u00a0There is no such thing as being \u201clittle bit pregnant\u201d with Hamas. They are a blood-thirsty, barbaric, truly evil terrorist group. Supporting them at all is like saying Hitler was evil but he liked dogs so maybe he wasn\u2019t all bad. For normals, there is no moral universe in which a \u201cbut\u201d can come in a sentence involving Hamas or Hitler.\u00a0\u00a0None.<\/p>\n

For that reason, and all the foregoing, it is therefore safe to conclude that Van Jones will not do anything meaningful to hurt DSA. Not after an entire lifetime of advocating for 90% of what they want.\u00a0\u00a0He will not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.<\/p>\n

So, no, Van, no matter what you say on Substack or CNN, these are your ideological children.\u00a0\u00a0And after all the slippery, pretty words are spoken, and you are alone in the voting booth, you\u2019ll pull for them \u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026 because you built that.<\/p>\n
