We are living through an age that has abandoned the dedicated pursuit of truth<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Our politicians and news personalities talk about \u201cthe narrative.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Our academies teach young minds to accept \u201cexpert opinion.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Our philosophers argue that truth is \u201csubjective.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Social theorists argue that truth is an \u201cillusion\u201d that powerful people use to control others.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Whenever I hear Democrat Senator Cory Booker all riled up on television, he\u2019s talking about \u201cher truth,\u201d \u201chis truth,\u201d or even \u201ctheir truth\u201d \u2014 as if a hundred conflicting descriptions of the same event could all be truthful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

During Justice Kavanaugh\u2019s confirmation hearings, Democrats called Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.\u00a0\u00a0Ford claimed that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her in 1982 when both were in high school.\u00a0\u00a0Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegation and argued that many parts of Ford\u2019s story didn\u2019t add up.\u00a0\u00a0When Kavanaugh told the senators that the whole thing was a political spectacle being used as a weapon to derail his confirmation, Senator Booker shouted, \u201cAre you calling her some kind of political operative?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Kavanaugh calmly pointed out, \u201cThe witnesses who were there [the party at which Blasey Ford claimed the alleged assault occurred] say it didn\u2019t happen.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Kavanaugh then stated that, although Blasey Ford\u2019s allegations were false and harmful, his \u201cfamily has no ill will toward her.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is how Booker responded to Justice Kavanaugh\u2019s total denial of the allegation against him: \u201cShe came forward.\u00a0\u00a0She sat here.\u00a0\u00a0She told her truth.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Her truth<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Not the truth<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0The \u201ctruth\u201d that was most likely to help Democrats \u201cBork\u201d Kavanaugh\u2019s nomination \u2014 just as then-Senator Joe Biden and fellow Democrats tried to do during Justice Clarence Thomas\u2019s confirmation hearings back in \u201991 when they brought in a witness who claimed that Thomas had made \u201cunwelcome sexual comments\u201d when the two worked together, a charge Thomas similarly and furiously denied.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

What was revealing about Booker\u2019s made-for-TV moment was his disregard for whether Kavanaugh had actually done anything untoward forty years earlier in his life.\u00a0\u00a0He didn\u2019t care.\u00a0\u00a0The lack of any evidence that could credibly support Blasey Ford\u2019s allegation didn\u2019t matter.\u00a0\u00a0Nor did it matter that Kavanaugh flatly denied the allegation.\u00a0\u00a0For Booker, the only \u201cfact\u201d that mattered was that Blasey Ford was willing to testify to something that might sink Kavanaugh\u2019s nomination.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHer truth,\u201d even if false, made it compelling.<\/p>\n

Booker\u2019s flippant disregard for the truth was reminiscent of President Bill Clinton\u2019s rationalization to a grand jury that he never lied about his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky when he told his staff, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing going on between us,\u201d and Jim Lehrer of PBS, \u201cThere is no improper relationship.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0As everyone who recalls Lewinsky\u2019s stained blue dress knows, Clinton\u2019s statements were lies.\u00a0\u00a0But when Clinton testified before members of a grand jury, this was his truth<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt depends on what the meaning of the word \u2018is\u2019 is.\u00a0\u00a0If the \u2014 if he \u2014 if \u2018is\u2019 means is and never has been, that is not \u2014 that is one thing.\u00a0\u00a0If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement.\u2026Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said \u2018no.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0And it would have been completely true.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

At that moment, President Clinton proved to Americans that he had no interest in truth.\u00a0\u00a0He did not care if he lied.\u00a0\u00a0He cared only whether the American people might catch him in a lie.\u00a0\u00a0Whether Clinton had \u201cplausible deniability\u201d mattered.\u00a0\u00a0Whether he could confuse enough jurors over the meaning of \u201cis\u201d mattered.\u00a0\u00a0But the truth?\u00a0\u00a0Well, the truth is for rubes and suckers.\u00a0\u00a0Clinton\u2019s dissembling and Booker\u2019s disregard for what actually happened in 1982 are symptoms of the same disease: our dishonest age\u2019s abandonment of \u2014 and even hostility toward \u2014 what is true.<\/p>\n

Politicians lie.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s hardly breaking news.\u00a0\u00a0What is newsworthy, though, is that our society does not even pretend to pursue truth anymore.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

During COVID, we were forced to follow government mandates that made absolutely no sense.\u00a0\u00a0Why was it safe for Walmart to remain open when small businesses were forced to close?\u00a0\u00a0How could paper masks, arrows painted on the floor, plexiglass walls, or six feet of space save us from microorganisms that don\u2019t care about such things?\u00a0\u00a0Why should schools be closed when the virus posed the least threat to young people?\u00a0\u00a0Why should healthy people who had already acquired natural immunity be forced to take an experimental injection?\u00a0\u00a0The public was right to ask so many valid questions.\u00a0\u00a0Yet our government-run health organizations responded with juvenile insouciance: We\u2019re working at the speed of science!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>That was the \u201cscientific\u201d equivalent of, \u201cIt depends on what the meaning of the word \u2018is\u2019 is.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019re fifteen years into this gender-bender madness during which \u201cexperts\u201d (including too many with M.D.s) claim that biological sex is not real and that what we perceive as male or female is nothing more than a self-imposed social construct.\u00a0\u00a0People who have refused to play this delusional game have been fired from jobs.\u00a0\u00a0People looking for jobs tell obvious lies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

During Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson\u2019s confirmation hearings, Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn asked, \u201cCan you provide a definition for the word \u2018woman\u2019?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0The newest member of the Supreme Court replied, \u201cNo, I can\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u201cYou can\u2019t?\u201d Blackburn asked incredulously.\u00a0\u00a0The jurist who holds one of the most powerful offices in the United States claimed, \u201cNot in this context.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m not a biologist.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0This is where we are now.\u00a0\u00a0A judge with two Harvard degrees can\u2019t tell the American people whether she is actually a woman.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A few days ago, reporter and columnist John Stossel noted that twenty years have passed since former Vice President Al Gore\u2019s An Inconvenient Truth<\/em> was released in theaters.\u00a0\u00a0Along with a short five-minute video that includes research scientists from the Heartland Institute debunking the pseudoscience behind \u201cclimate change\u201d fearmongering, Stossel summed up Gore\u2019s lies thusly: \u201cNONE of his scary predictions have come true.\u00a0\u00a0Mt. Kilimanjaro still has snow and Glacier National Park still has glaciers.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Yet included in that short video is a litany of celebrity \u201cexperts\u201d and Democrat politicians all parroting the same lie: We have only twelve years left to live.<\/em><\/p>\n

The \u201cglobal warming\u201d liars spent the last twenty years scaring children all over the world by telling them that they would die before being old enough to drive.\u00a0\u00a0Now some of those scared kids have children of their own, and the \u201cclimate change\u201d con is still going.\u00a0\u00a0Prominent Democrats such as Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Richard Blumenthal have even supported legislation that would prohibit funds to federal agencies that \u201cchallenge the scientific consensus on climate change.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In other words, Democrat politicians wish to outlaw the Scientific Method.<\/p>\n

Our society does not doggedly pursue truth.\u00a0\u00a0It pursues ideological compliance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Truth<\/em> does not require President Joe Biden\u2019s Disinformation Governance Board to arbitrate reality for the public.\u00a0\u00a0Science is never \u201csettled,\u201d as President Barack Obama claimed in his 2014 State of the Union Address.\u00a0\u00a0People without PhDs are quite capable of defining a \u201cwoman\u201d and deciding for themselves whether to wear paper masks.\u00a0\u00a0To pretend otherwise is just another lie.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the real problem, though: When our politicians, scientists, educators, and philosophers spread the lie that there is no objective truth, they transform our existence into gooey meaninglessness.\u00a0\u00a0Because if everything is \u201ctrue,\u201d then nothing is true.\u00a0\u00a0And if nothing is true, then politicians will decide what is \u201ctrue\u201d for us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pursuing truth does not mean that we ever obtain it.\u00a0\u00a0It is the vigilant pursuit of truth, though, that gives us sufficient wisdom to recognize the lies and liars among us.\u00a0\u00a0In an age when liars rule, question everything.<\/p>
