\u00a0Pete, the guy who thought roads and bridges were racist, was recently photographed, for some reason, sitting in what Democrats think is an authentic American diner. He was peering steadfastly into the future, the future he alone can create, his sleeves manfully rolled up\u2014see? He\u2019s a working guy, just like us!–while wearing a beard and looking like what Democrats think is manly, which is a good trick for a guy as publicly gay as Pete.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Apparently, gazing manfully into the future in a diner just wasn\u2019t doing the job, and by the way, the answer to The Atlantic\u2019s question is: \u201cno.\u201d What with all the outed Communists sucking all the political air out of the room, Pete had to do something dramatic to attract public attention, so he got Swatted:<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably heard of \u201cswatting.\u201d It\u2019s a cruel and dangerous kind of hoax that has started happening more frequently in recent years. Someone anonymously calls 911 with a false report of imminent danger, such as a hostage situation, at the home of a public figure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now imagine the same concept, but with Child Protective Services instead of a SWAT team. Hadn\u2019t thought of that? Me neither, until a few days ago when a police officer and a CPS worker showed up at our home and politely asked to speak with me.<\/p>\n

I showed them in, invited them on the deck so that we could hear each other over the barking dog, and asked what was going on. They explained that there had been an allegation against me, that it concerned our four-year-old twins, and that a forensic interview had been arranged for the children the following day. I could not be present at the children\u2019s interview, nor could any family member sit in. Afterwards, they would come back and interview me. And only then would they tell me anything about the nature of the allegation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, Pete isn\u2019t exactly claiming to have been Swatted-Swatted, which is something almost exclusively done to Republicans\u2014take the link to see many of those–but he\u2019d certainly like you to believe the horrors he experienced were the same thing, minus the SWAT team and death and stuff.<\/p>\n

Swatting occurs when police get a call about a hostage situation or something equally dangerous, and respond expecting deadly violence. Usually, no one is hurt, but in December of 2017 in Wichita, Kansas, a swatting turned deadly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Child protective agencies are required to investigate complaints, and even Buttigieg admitted one CP agent and one police officer, both polite, did their legal duty. No one was harmed, the complaint was discovered to be unfounded, and that, as they say, was that.<\/p>\n

But because it happened to Pete\u2014it was an apparently anonymous complaint\u2014it\u2019s a national disgrace. After all, he\u2019s a Democrat.\u00a0\u00a0They\u2019re supposed to be the people making the false complaints, not the recipients. And it\u2019s certainly worse because he\u2019s a public figure and gay.<\/p>

Strangely, I don\u2019t recall Pete, or indeed any Democrats decrying the Swatting of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett in May of this year.\u00a0Nor the bomb threat against her sister who lives in North Carolina last year. Of course, that could just be me.<\/p>\n

In any case, Buttigieg\u2019s \u201cSwatting\u201d did the trick, and all the usual leftist media suspects trumpeted the horror of it all, like\u2014surprise\u2014The Atlantic, which trumpeted this alarming headline:\u00a0<\/p>\n

People considering a role in public life should not have to worry about the risks to their children.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The news that former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was investigated by Child Protective Services for a false allegation of child abuse was surprising. Not that an accuser would attempt such a cruel form of harassment\u2014this, unfortunately, is not shocking at all\u2014but because nobody seems to have aimed this particular tactic at a prominent politician before.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hmm.\u00a0\u00a0It has been happening to prominent politicians for years, only they\u2019ve pretty much all been Republicans, so to The Atlantic, it\u2019s not cruel, and they don\u2019t count.<\/p>\n

Google \u201cButtigieg swatting\u201d to find precisely the kind of press Pete has been seeking. And I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be hearing about it on the campaign trail. That such a horrible thing\u2014legitimate authorities doing their legal duty to protect children\u2014can happen in America is, well, horrible, and in Pete\u2019s case, politically useful.<\/p>\n
