As I wrote in a June 20thitem\u00a0posted right here on this illustrious site, the Memo of Understanding (MOU) President Trump agreed to with what remains of Iran\u2019s leaders was a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n

There was \u2014 and is — no way Iran was\/is going to abide by any agreement. The leaders had \u2014 and have \u2014 only two goals: to survive, and to embarrass Trump and the U.S.<\/p>\n

I wrote:<\/p>\n

Trump could\u2019ve called victory and gone home after the U.S. military knocked the hell out of the Iranians in the first few weeks, further degrading its nuclear program. Or he could\u2019ve kept on blasting them to smithereens until the job was finished. And it could have been. Instead, panicked by the upcoming mid-term elections and the high price of oil\/gasoline, he chose the third way. Which is no way at all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I called the agreement \u201cunconditional surrender,\u201d and \u201cunilateral capitulation,\u201d and predicted:<\/p>\n

\n

What\u2019s left of the mullahs and the IRGC will do whatever it wants, including executing any citizens known to have been sympathetic to the Americans. That unspoken guarantee is the only one they will uphold. Understand that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But now, in a bizarre irony, Iran\u2019s leaders, whoever they may be, have thrown Trump and the U.S. a lifeline to recapture their dignity. By ignoring the MOU and continuing to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz and neighboring states, no matter the threats from Trump, they have permitted the president to finally declare: “It’s just a waste of time dealing with them. They’re scum.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are those who\u00a0believe this was Trump\u2019s plan all along, that he knew Iran would behave this way and he would then be vindicated in his former and future actions.<\/p>\n

I wish I could believe that.<\/p>\n

In any case, at this point, President Trump should simply say that negotiating with the effing asshats — the ignorant savages currently in control of Iran — is a ridiculous and impossible endeavor for a rational person or nation to engage in. And that therefore we\u2019re going to deal with them in the only manner they recognize and respect, the only way that could produce an end result: bomb them back into the Stone Age. But even that is problematic because those (nominally) in control in Iran are already there.<\/p>\n

Still, tragically, it appears the only potentially viable option is to bomb the living crap out of them until the stupid bleeping mullahs, the subhumans in the IRGC, and the rest of the thugocracy are no more.<\/p>\n

Trump should clearly and publicly state that \u201cThis is our last negotiating position and there won\u2019t be another one. Thank you for your attention to this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n
