Maybe it\u2019s a coincidence, but Laura of \u201cLittle House\u201d fame is up, and that \u201cgirl boss\u201d Supergirl can\u2019t sell tickets.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s nothing, or perhaps the people making movies are finally listening to the people who buy tickets.\u00a0 As my late Cuban father used to say, the guy buying tickets always has the last word.<\/p>

We hear that Netflix is bringing back \u201cLittle House\u201d to have families watch TV together:<\/p>\n

\n

Netflix said the series is part of its \u2018wholesome\u2019 and \u2018heartwarming\u2019 lineup offered on the streaming platform alongside series like \u2018Virgin River\u2019 and \u2018Sweet Magnolias.\u2019<\/p>\n

[Actor Warren] Christie said while the show is \u2018beautifully shot,\u2019 he believes it will ultimately be on families can watch together.<\/p>\n

\u2018[W]hat I hope it offers is multi-generational viewing,\u2019 he told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

\u2018I hope, at the end of the day, what we\u2019ve done is created a really exciting world that multiple generations can share and enjoy together. And it\u2019s the underlying thing of the whole show, which is community.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Multiple generations can share?\u00a0 I love that.<\/p>\n

At the same time, we hear that \u201cSupergirl\u201d is not flying with audiences.\u00a0 Let\u2019s hear from Roger Ebert\u2019s legacy outlet, which has reviewed a few movies over the years:<\/p>

Most offensive is perhaps the 101-level feminism that \u2018Supergirl\u2019 still tries to sell, nearly a decade after \u2018Wonder Woman\u2019 (and many similarly-minded flicks since then) sparked a frustrating discourse in culture, as if one\u2019s love and support of a female superhero would measure their commitment index to feminism and representation in media. In an early scene in \u2018Supergirl,\u2019 with a script written by Ana Nogueira, a young girl (more on her later) wonders why Superman gets to be a \u2018man\u2019 when Supergirl isn\u2019t called a \u2018Superwoman\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We may have reached a point where the public is saying that they’d rather see female characters like Laura Ingalls and Lois Lane.\u00a0 Yes, Laura loved and admired her father, an old-fashioned dad who killed wolves and protected their house.\u00a0 He also provided for them.\u00a0 And maybe they want more Lois Lane, that girl who did not want to be super woman but rather get flown around the world in the arms of Superman.<\/p>\n

And did I tell you that the movie about young George Washington is also selling lots of tickets?\u00a0 Yes, it\u2019s doing a lot better than the \u201cSupergirl,\u201d as Ian Miller pointed out:<\/p>\n

\n

Meanwhile, \u2018Young Washington\u2019 has been a tremendous success, because outside of the powerful progressive echo chamber in the entertainment industry, there is still an enormous appetite for stories about the United States, its founding, and prominent historical figures.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And maybe real people who love the country are sick and tired of history books that only mention that George Washington had slaves.\u00a0 Yes, he did, but he also did a lot like earning the title of \u201cFather of the country.\u201d\u00a0 Many of us appreciate that part of the story a lot more.<\/p>

So go George and Laura, and down with \u201cSupergirl.\u201d\u00a0 We are winning, yes we are.<\/p>\n
