The Talerico campaign has released a series of obnoxious begging videos from the Texas messiah in which, among other things, he asks everyone watching to send him five dollars. Just fi\u2019 dolla. That\u2019s all. When he gets that fi\u2019 dolla, he gonna buy him a lottery ticket, and then when that hits, he\u2019s gonna pay y\u2019all back. Straight goods.<\/p>

Actually, it\u2019s more like:<\/p>\n

\u201c$5. That\u2019s how much I\u2019m hoping you\u2019ll contribute to our campaign\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201c$5 to defeat the billionaire megadonors and their puppet politicians who are trying to defeat our movement.<\/p>\n

\u201c$5 to win a Senate majority. So\u00a0that we can hold the people in power accountable. $5 may not sound like a lot, but if you give $5, and the next person watching this video gives $5, it adds up real fast, and then all of a sudden, we have the resources we need to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Standard Democrat boilerplate, in other words, all delivered in his customary gay robot style.<\/p>\n

In truth, there\u2019s something of a mystery here, because if there\u2019s one thing Talarico does well, it\u2019s fundraising. He raised close to seven million before the primaries, \u00a0that was spent beating his fellow Democrats. Since then, he\u2019s continued his fundraising streak, reaching 27 million as of April. This is a lot more than Ken Paxton has pulled together, but then again, he doesn\u2019t really need to.<\/p>

So why the tone of panicky near-desperation in these ads? It\u2019s a mystery to me. But the key point here is that he\u2019s trying to raise money not just from Texans, but from lefties across the country, a recent innovation that seems to have evolved into standard practice for the Dems. Traditionally, of course, fundraising for state-centered campaigns was limited to the state in question. But that appears to have gone by the board for the Democrats, even though it might well threaten fundraising in other states. If they\u2019re funding little Jimmy, that\u2019s less money they have for their own home candidates. This method of funding has its own built-in limiting factor which the Dems don\u2019t seem to have figured out yet<\/p>\n

Does it work? There\u2019s no sign of it. It has been attempted on a number of occasions \u2013 in fact Beto tried it while running against Ted Cruz — but I can\u2019t recall it ever actually working for them. At best, it simply gives the Donk candidate more money to throw away. Which is good.<\/p>\n

In between Talerico in Texas and Standartenfuhrer<\/em> Platner in Maine, it really does look as if the Dems have put the Senate out of reach by their own actions. Nicely played.<\/p>
