Now, the inability to say sorry for committed wrongs is a really obnoxious aspect of human existence, at least in my experience\u2014I have two sons, one of whom seems incapable of apologizing, the other who spits out an \u201cI\u2019m-sorry-do-you-forgive-me\u201d so quickly, it can only go his way after that.<\/p>\n

But, individuals like Mamdani have worn out any sort of sympathy for their cause and case, and I\u2019m not apologizing for America, and I\u2019m not apologizing for white people. (Not that I ever did, but now I\u2019m completely unwilling to even hear them out.)<\/p>\n

Why should I apologize for the fact that Africans sold their own kin into the Transatlantic slave trade? I\u2019ve never owned a slave, and I never will.\u00a0<\/p>

Am I benefitting in any way from America\u2019s brief period of slavery? I say brief because slavery effectively ended in 1865, which was just 89 years after America was born (before that, it was British slavery), meaning it was only around for 35% of American history. That\u2019s a minority of the time. But to answer the question no, no I\u2019m not\u2014I\u2019m abusively taxed, having around half of my earned income stolen through various means, all to pay for other people\u2014including distant descendants of enslaved populations\u2014 to eat and live. The irony is, I\u2019m<\/em> actually a slave for them.<\/p>\n

Should I be \u201csorry\u201d that whites are so creative and functional, responsible for endless inventions and advancements, which then brought convenience and prosperity to populations around the world? Why should I feel guilty that other people don\u2019<\/span>t do the same? Who\u2019s stopping Africa from getting it together? Who\u2019s stopping the George Floyds and the Karmelo Anthonys from being productive members of society? No one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Am I supposed to feel bad that Christian ideals are entirely responsible for building up such a great nation, a reality replicated in every other place they were exported to? No. Absolutely not. Because I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Do \u201cprogressives\u201d like Mamdani expect me to deny Western cultural superiority because migrants and minorities commit essentially all the crime every public space they enter quickly falls into chaos and ruin? Because I won\u2019t.<\/p>\n

What in the world should I, or we, be sorry for? The answer is, absolutely nothing.<\/p>
