Another John Denver song may be heard soon in Colorado.\u00a0 The left may be singing \u201cRocky Mountain High\u201d soon on election night.\u00a0 What we hear is that Colorado is next on Mamdani\u2019s list of objectives.\u00a0 Let\u2019s check this out:<\/p>\n

The Democratic primary in Colorado\u2019s 1st District represents the next best chance for the progressive wing of the party to pick up another win over an entrenched incumbent.<\/p>\n

Rep. Diana DeGette, who has served in Congress for almost 30 years, is now fighting for political survival. She has sought to burnish her progressive credentials, with one recent ad touting her role as an impeachment manager during President Donald Trump\u2019s Senate trial after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, while also emphasizing her support for \u2018Medicare for All\u2019 and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/p>\n

Melot Kiros, a 29-year-old doctoral student and former lawyer who immigrated from Ethiopia as a child, has argued that the 68-year-old incumbent isn\u2019t adequately fighting for the district. She is backed by key politicians and groups on the left, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Justice Democrats, the Democratic Socialists of America and a handful of Democratic candidates who were successful in their insurgent bids.<\/p>

Rep. DeGette is burnishing her progressive credentials, another way of reminding everyone that she hates Trump, too.\u00a0 We recall that Rep. Goldman reminded everyone of his progressive credentials, but it was not enough for the so-called Democratic socialists.\u00a0 I guess that last minute conversions don\u2019t persuade these socialists!<\/p>\n

A big topic in the primary is support for Israel.\u00a0 Anyone surprised?<\/p>\n

Another big name is Senator Bennett who wants to be governor.\u00a0 He is fighting a challenge from the attorney general.\u00a0 The big issue appears to be who is going to be tougher against Trump, or whatever that means.<\/p>\n

Sen. Hickenlooper is also facing a challenge from another progressive who thinks that the senator is just a go-along-to-get-along Democrat who voted for ten Trump cabinet nominations.<\/p>\n

Who knows how all of this will turn out?\u00a0 Will the Mamdani run end in Colorado, or will it move on to another state?\u00a0 I don\u2019t know, but this is clearly not your dad\u2019s Democrat party.<\/p>
