This misinformation campaign is obviously fracturing American support.\u00a0\u00a0For example, I recently received this email:<\/p>\n

Hello Mark. Can any sane person believe that the US MOU with criminal Iran can have any basis for approval? IRGC remains intact, they keep their missile capabilities, they demand we side with them against Israel\u2019s destruction of Hezbollah, we tell them their country will be rebuilt. What happened to our leadership?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of particular significance is that my correspondent was, for a tour of duty many years ago, head of the Pentagon\u2019s Middle East desk.\u00a0\u00a0Also, more recent events have further bolstered confidence in the beneficial conclusion of the current conflict.<\/p>\n

A plethora of opinions on this subject is still flooding all forms of media.\u00a0\u00a0Getting the \u201cpresident\u201d of Iran to agree to unfettered U.N. oversight of their nuclear activities is a serious declaration.\u00a0\u00a0However, the mullahs object.\u00a0\u00a0Gee, I\u2019m shocked!<\/p>

Bottom line: Iran is already defeated…it\u2019s just that it doesn\u2019t matter all that much to the ruling theocracy.\u00a0\u00a0Also, unlike the Iranian regime, the U.S. and Israel are modern<\/em> nations, largely influenced by pragmatism<\/em> rather than a religious dogma that has long been at war with most of the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

Lurking behind all of this guessing is whether or not a genuine conclusion, truly beneficial to the U.S. and its \u201cfriends,\u201d can be achieved while Mr. Trump is still president.\u00a0\u00a0Fortunately, more than two years remain before the possibility of a Democrat squish replacing Trump enters the calculation.\u00a0\u00a0Also, both Vance and Rubio are already at least waist-deep in the process of defanging the mullahs.\u00a0\u00a0They are also pursuing the presidency, and either one of them has a reasonably realistic chance of replacing Mr. Trump in the continuity of events.<\/p>\n

And, as this is still being written, Trump has just renewed kinetic activities against Iranian assets in retaliation to a strike against a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.\u00a0\u00a0This may mostly be a demonstration of the consequences for failing to abide by the MOU and the ensuing negotiations.\u00a0\u00a0It should also come to no one\u2019s surprise.\u00a0\u00a0As this back-and-forth continues, Iran will be whittled down to a helpless failed state.\u00a0\u00a0And the world will celebrate.<\/p>
