Remember how the movie flopped so badly Disney lost $170 million? \u00a0Good times.<\/p>

So good, it appears the star of the upcoming\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0remake, one Milly Alcock\u2014no, I\u2019ve never heard of her either\u2014is trying to out-Zegler Zegler:<\/p>\n

Milly Alcock\u00a0told\u00a0Vanity Fair\u00a0in a new interview that she\u2019s aware she\u2019ll face backlash over leading Warner Bros. \u201cSupergirl\u201d simply because she\u2019s playing a female superhero. The 25-year-old actor is no stranger to dealing with intense fandoms, having broke out as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO\u2019s \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel series \u201cHouse of the Dragon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,\u201d Alcock said. \u201cWe have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women\u2019s bodies. I can\u2019t really stop them. I can only be myself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I suspect Rachel Zegler was very much being herself, and that didn\u2019t end so well either.<\/p>\n

I recall strong female characters doing well. Gal Gadot\u2019s\u00a0Wonder Woman<\/em>\u00a0was very popular, and so were the Wonder Woman comics of the past. Sigourney Weaver\u2019s Ripley in several\u00a0Alien<\/em>\u00a0movies, and particularly the original, had no lack of fans, male and female. Linda Hamilton\u2019s Sarah Connor was embraced by movie fans, and Sarah Michelle Gellar\u2019s\u00a0Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em>\u00a0had a great TV run and became an iconic character. Angelina Jolie\u2019s Lara Croft also had a great movie run. Scarlett Johansson\u2019s\u00a0Black Widow\u00a0has done good box office.\u00a0\u00a0Carrie-Anne Moss made a memorable Trinity in the\u00a0Matrix\u00a0<\/em>films. Charlize Theron easily carried two \u201cOld Guard\u201d movies and\u00a0Atomic Blonde<\/em>, and the list goes on and on.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Pheobe Waller-Bridge in\u00a0Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny<\/em>\u00a0couldn\u2019t carry that movie, nor could Daisy Ridley in\u00a0The Force Awakens.<\/em>\u00a0Was that because they were female leads, or was it poor screenwriting and the woke imperative requiring women\u2014any woman\u2014to overshadow what have traditionally been male roles?\u00a0\u00a0Carrie Fisher had little trouble excelling as Princess Leia, a character she made ironic.<\/p>

Rumors of the new owners of the James Bond franchise picking a woman to take on that more than iconic role have not set well with fans. Apart from wokeness and perhaps a need to stick a thumb in the eye of Bond fans, why would producers want to mess with one of the most successful formulas in film history?\u00a0In Die Another Day,<\/em>\u00a0Daniel Craig\u2019s last Bond film in which Bond died, Ana de Armas played a convincing female agent with believable physicality, as did Lashana Lynch, as a OO agent backing Bond. The temptation of woke producers to make her\u2014a black woman\u2014the new Bond must be overwhelming, but such casting would almost certainly cause fans to stay away in droves, not because she\u2019s female or black, but because the franchise has spent decades cementing the image of James Bond\u2014not Jane Bond\u2014in the public imagination.\u00a0\u00a0Charlize Theron excelled as a female secret agent, but it\u2019s a virtual certainty no woman could fill James Bond\u2019s shoes.<\/p>\n

Alcock, who appears to be someone\u2019s very young, not-yet-blooming, barely teenage sister, couldn\u2019t leave well enough alone. She had to go after Christians, who apparently absolutely hate women and the movies:<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess women know that this is just how it\u2019s always been, unfortunately,\u201d Alcock\u00a0said\u00a0of the criticism over her retarded comments back in March. \u201cAnd it\u2019s from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts. Or someone\u2019s name and then \u2018Dad of four, Christian,\u2019 which is hilarious to me. But I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? If you\u2019re pissing the right kind of people off, you\u2019re doing OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Well, not if \u201cpissing off the right kind of people\u201d keeps them from spending their hard-earned dollars on outrageously priced movie popcorn. Alcock seems to be just another \u201ccelebrity\u201d using her girl power to spout ill-considered, insulting political views and to make excuses for poor acting and screenwriting. Her only sort-of, Zegleresque, innovation is making excuses before the movie\u2019s debut, not after it bombs. Perhaps she knows something we don\u2019t?<\/p>\n
