The US military has killed the leader of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua in an airstrike, President Donald Trump has announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt my direction, the United States Southern Command delivered a swift and lethal kinetic strike to successfully execute Ni\u00f1o Guerrero,\u201d Trump wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

Ni\u00f1o Guerrero, whose full name is H\u00e9ctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, was the longtime leader of Tren de Aragua. The gang is one of the most notorious criminal groups in Latin America and has been a target of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

The president has accused the group of engaging in \u201cirregular warfare\u201d against the US and declared it a foreign terrorist organisation.<\/p>\n

Trump posted footage of what appears to be the airstrike, showing a green building with a nearby shed being blown up, debris flying into the air. Trump said the military action was \u201ccoordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, with whom we are working very well\u201d.<\/p>

Venezuelan authorities confirmed their involvement in what they described as a \u201cjoint operation\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A joint operation? Wow\u00a0\u2014 the times, they are a-changing, as Dylan would say.\u00a0\u00a0Who would have believed this six months ago?\u00a0\u00a0Maduro in a cell in New York, and the head of \u201cEl Tren\u201d turned into dust.<\/p>\n

Beyond Venezuela, this action will shock any narco-leader in the\u00a0area.\u00a0\u00a0From Mexico to wherever, the Trump administration is quite clear that we intend to use our amazing technology to find you and kill you.<\/p>\n

As more Latin American countries turn right, such as the latest election in Peru, the new leaders will find fighting narco-terrorism a little easier.\u00a0\u00a0They can now count on the U.S. to eliminate these \u201cheads\u201d terrorizing their populations.\u00a0\u00a0We will probably see more \u201cjoint operations\u201d down the road.<\/p>\n
